Prior to the start of the president's official visit, Khan took the controversial decision to allow a 20-foot inflatable blimp depicting Trump to be flown above Parliament Square, saying to have done so would have been inhibitive to freedom of speech.

As the Queen and Mr Trump reviewed the troops, a rare honour for a visiting head of state, the American let the royal take the lead, slowing his pace to match the 92-year-old monarch.

"I guess when they put out blimps to make me feel unwelcome, no reason for me to go to London", Trump said in an interview with The Sun.

President Donald Trump says his relationship with British Prime Minister Theresa May is "very, very strong" even after a published interview in which he questioned her handling of Brexit.

Trump will not be meeting Queen Elizabeth's eldest son and William's father Prince Charles, the heir to the throne. You don't see, like, anything embarrassing.

After Melania was photographed in the gown, several people posted raves on Twitter about the look - even comparing the first lady to a Disney princess.

"She didn't agree, she didn't listen to me", he told The Sun.

There will be no carriage procession and no opulent state banquet, and Buckingham Palace said no other members of the royal family will call in to Windsor to meet the billionaire-turned-politician.

Upon the queen's arrival Britain's national anthem was played by the Royal Guard, followed by a royal salute and the USA national anthem.

Donald Trump has met Queen Elizabeth II at Windsor Castle for a "social visit", during which the pair are expected to share a cup of tea. "She has got a great and handsome grace about her", he added.

Half-shaded by a tent, the queen stood in a blue hat and coat in blazing sunshine waiting for the president and first lady Melania Trump to arrive.

His Scottish-born mother, Trump added, was also enamored with the British royalty.

"I used to love London as a city", he added.

In a 1997 interview, just weeks after Diana's death, United States radio host Howard Stern asked Trump if he "could have nailed her".

In his book "The Art of the Comeback" Trump even said he wished that he was able to "court" Princess Diana, who died in a vehicle crash in 1997.
