On Sunday, Kate and the Duke of Cambridge will watch the men's singles final on Centre Court.
A relatively routine 6-2, 6-4 semifinal victory over 13th-seeded Julia Goerges of Germany on Thursday put Williams into her 10th final at the All England Club and moved her closer to a 24th Grand Slam title, which would equal Margaret Court's record. Her win sets the stage for a redux of the 2016 Wimbledon final in which she defeated Angelique Kerber, who will also be her 2018 opponent.
"It's insane. I don't even know how to feel because I literally didn't think I'd do this well in my fourth tournament back", Williams said. "I think it's just not fair".
'This was not inevitable for me, I had a really hard pregnancy and I had to have multiple surgeries, I nearly didn't make it. That's what I'm doing.
'I remember when I couldn't even walk to my mailbox, so it's definitely not normal to be in a Wimbledon final'.
Saturday's final will be a re-match of the 2016 showpiece, which Williams won.
"It wasn't as tight as I was used to", she said last month. "It'll be a good match".
"I want to be around as long as I can to support her".
Williams is playing her fourth tournament since becoming a mother and is now the favourite to win the title.
Goerges' resistance was broken in the sixth game as Williams peppered the baseline, a great cross-court forehand on the run forcing a crucial mistake from the German. The American, who didn't face breakpoint until late in the semifinal clash, then served out handily for a 5-2 lead.
Williams took a 19-match Wimbledon winning streak into the day.
The Latvian stuck to her guns, continuing to go all out at the start of the second set, but her radar was way off and Kerber quickly opened up a 3-0 lead, with one break of serve. That first game consisted of eight points: Three were unforced errors by Ostapenko, including a double-fault to begin the proceedings; the other five were winners by her, including a 100 miles per hour ace to close the hold. "I don't know. There's word on the street", added the 36-year-old. Williams won that for a second consecutive Wimbledon title, then sat out the grass-court tournament previous year while pregnant, part of a 16-month gap between majors. Ostapenko, who has a volatile game, finally broke Kerber's serve in the second set, but by that point she was already down 1-5 and it wasn't enough.
