  • Fortnite season 5 map changes

The biggest change pertains to the new Rifts that are scattered all throughout the "Fortnite" battle royale map.

Today, Season 5 launches and Epic Games has given us our first official information on what to expect. Viking ships and ancient statues have appeared on the map, while a drought in the Moisty Mire region has yielded a new desert landscape.

The new season has also been preceded by Fortnite items, including Llamas and the Durr Burger sign appearing in real life locations around the world. We also know the update will add in the two skins featured in the image below, which seem to support the theory that the update will be themed around multiple worlds and time periods colliding. There is a new "Desert" biome and two new locations, Paradise Palms and Lazy Links.

There's also a new vehicle, the All Terrain Kart (the ATK) which will accommodate your whole squad. Well, here's your guide on where you need to look to get your hands on the Fortnite ATK, and how to lean and then jump. Also, after firing a shotgun, you won't be able to use a different shotgun for a short amount of time, presumably to avoid players weapon switching to fire off shotguns faster than they were created to be shot.

Weekly challenges are available for anyone who purchases the Season 5 Battle Pass, which can be had for 950 in-game "V-Bucks", or roughly $10. You can now complete progressive challenges at your own pace. Rather than their bullet spread being randomised, they'll now fire in a consistent manner, meaning you'll be able to learn where within their arc will actually get hit.

You can, as ever, check out the full patch notes on the Epic Games blog while you wait for the game to come back online.

There's also Road Trip tier rewards (similar to Blockbuster challenges from last season) as well as Drift Challenges.
