"It's weird. Sometimes I feel, 'Man, I'm in trouble.' Sometimes I feel, 'I can fight.' For whatever reason, today I was so calm", said 36-year-old American, who has been wearing compression leggings as a precaution after a blood-clot scare following her daughter's birth.

Serena celebrated her 100th career main draw victory on grass as she reached her 11th Wimbledon semifinal in 13 quarter-finals played with lone losses to Capriati (2001) and Henin (2007). Ostapenko started slowly in her 7-5, 6-4 win over Cibulkova, while Kerber suffered four breaks against Kasatkina-three of which came in succession at the close of the second set.

"I was down in the first set but I kept fighting". It was a fearless performance that offered Williams one of her toughest tests since returning.

Serena Williams recovered from a set behind to seal her place in the Wimbledon semi-finals.

Williams has won the title at SW19 seven times and made the final in back-to-back years prior to her pregnancy-related absence in 2017.

Kerber takes on Latvia's Jelena Ostapenko in the other semi-final. I mean, I always say I plan on it, I would like to be there, have these goals. She missed Wimbledon a year ago because she was pregnant, and she went about 16 months between Grand Slam tournaments, so her ranking is just outside the top 180.

Williams opted not to challenge when she saw a shot called long, although Hawk-Eye proved it was actually in, and Giorgi went on to bring up two break points, with Serena then mis-hitting wide to surrender the game.

Ultimately, Williams found a way to win, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, but Giorgi gave her all she could handle.

She controlled the game and finished the first set clinching 8 winners to 6 and committing 6 unforced errors to Serena's two.

It took Mannarino so much toil and trouble to win one game, saving four break points to hold to begin the second set.

Incredibly, Goerges had won only five matches in 10 previous visits to The All England Club - and none in the past five years - before arriving last week.

Bertens next faces 13th-seeded Julia Goerges, who beat Donna Vekic of Croatia 6-3, 6-2 to secure her first Grand Slam quarterfinal appearance.

"This is only my fourth tournament back so I don't feel pressure, I don't feel I have to win this".

Williams dropped her first set at this tournament as the 52nd-ranked Giorgi produced an impressive display of power and accuracy in the opener.

Williams is 3-0 against Goerges, winning in straight sets each time.
