Giuliani 'Close To Determining' That Trump Won't Sit Down With Mueller

  • In memo to special counsel Trump lawyers cast former FBI Director Comey as dishonest and 'Machiavellian'

He also said Mr. Trump believes Mr. Cohen should cooperate with federal investigators. Speculation has mounted that he might turn on Trump.

Without providing evidence or historical context, MSNBC host Joe Scarborough called Trump's White House "e$3 asily the most corrupt president the first year and a half of his presidency". On Saturday, Trump tweeted about "the Rigged Witch Hunt and the "Special" Counsel".

Giuliani acknowledged the White House not agreeing to an interview with a member of Trump's staff was new, given that other key staffers, including Trump's son-in-law and adviser Jared Kushner, have spoken with investigators.

Mueller later removed Strzok from the probe after his anti-Trump and pro-Clinton text messages exchanged with former Federal Bureau of Investigation lawyer Lisa Page came to light.

He also confirmed the gist of a New York Times article that said Trump's side had added new conditions for any interview with Mueller.

Additionally two sources close to Michael Cohen have told Gloria Borger that Cohen has a very clear message for President Trump and his attorney, Rudy Giuliani: "The truth is not you or your client's friend".

The former NY mayor said on NBC that it's "great" if Cohen wants to cooperate with investigators because "we've been through all the records" and "he has no evidence of, nor was he involved in, anything untoward with the president".

Giuliani told ABC, "We've been through everything on collusion and obstruction".

Cohen, who was known as Mr. Trump's fixer, is now under criminal investigation by the Justice Department.

A day after he tweeted "I will always protect my POTUS" in April, the FBI raided his home, office and hotel room as part of a probe by federal prosecutors in NY into his business dealings.

Cohen, President Donald Trump's longtime personal lawyer who is under investigation by federal prosecutors in NY, said in his Twitter post Sunday, July 1, that he sat down for an interview with ABC News and his "silence is broken".

Giuliani said in a separate interview on NBC's "Meet the Press" that they had "pretty much decided" where they were with regard to an interview.

"He didn't direct him to do that", Giuliani said. "The president did nothing wrong with him, so we've gone through every document we can".

Still, Michael Cohen and Lanny Davis' public statements about the president and the truth all appear to promise a big reveal in the near future.

"I was probably there that day", he said a bit cryptically, adding, "I don't remember it".

"The idea is the president gets to decide if this is a legitimate investigation in exchange for testimony", Wehle explained. "But the fact is there's no reason for a pardon right now. and, quite honestly, it would just confuse everything".
