  • Police: 4 kids,1 adult killed in Townsend, Del. crash

A deadly crash Friday in DE killed a New Jersey family of one adult and four children, police said.

At 3:47 p.m. Friday, Kern was driving north on Route 1, a main route to DE and Maryland shore points, when a southbound pickup truck crossed over a grassy median and into northbound lanes.

The fa‌t‌a‌l collision took the l‌iv‌es of the family's father, 61-year-old Filipino-American father Audie Trinidad, and his four daughters: 20-year-old Kaitlyn, 17-year-old Danna, and 14-year-old twins Melissa and Allison.

Trinidad's 53-year-old wife, Mary Rose, remains hospitalized with serious injuries.

The two occupants of the pickup truck and the single occupant of the vehicle were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Mercury Sable as been identified as 24-year old Brian C. Kern of Bethlehem PA. The driver of that auto was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

"It just hurts. All I have is just the memories", he said.

Authorities on Sunday identified the wrong-way driver of the pickup truck that crashed head-on into a minivan on a DE highway, killing a New Jersey dad and his four daughters. "They touched our lives in many ways", said Teaneck Mayor Mohammed Hameeduddin. They say Audie and Mary Rose Trinidad were properly restrained in the vehicle, but their four daughters were not.

The family had been heading north on Delaware's Route 1 back to their Bergen County home.

Both Trinidad and Ballocanag had been wearing seat belts; at least some of the daughters were not, police said.

In tears, he said, "I'm going to miss them so much". Investigators would only say they're from New Jersey. A passenger in the truck was also treated.

'They're all gone in the blink of an eye.

"It's sad, but it doesn't surprise me", she said, adding that the stretch of the highway sees frequent crashes.

He said nothing was more important to his brother than his family - a sentiment echoed at a Saturday night vigil by those who knew Audie and his daughters. He received a photo of the family eating blue crabs on July 4.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the Trinidad family. "She knows. The thing that she doesn't know is that my brother and two of the girls are unrecognizable (at the morgue)".
