Moscow drafts a blueprint for the Putin-Trump summit in Helsinki

  • NATO Braces For Trump, White House Says Business As Usual

President Vladimir Putin plans to visit only the final match of the 2018 World Cup Spokesman of the President Dmitry Peskov states, TASS quotes.

Russia's President Vladimir Putin talks to U.S. President Donald Trump during their bilateral meeting at the G20 summit in Hamburg, Germany, July 7, 2017. I think it's a sign of how confident the president is that he did nothing wrong.

This personal animosity between the alliance's most important national leaders comes at an especially infelicitous time, with Vladimir Putin's Russian Federation applying pressure around Nato's periphery, using "hybrid warfare" techniques to destabilize the Baltic and Black Sea nations, and employing cyber operations to undermine democracy as far away as the US. And given the script he is executing with North Korea-including a pause on military exercises with South Korea that apparently blindsided not only Seoul but also secretary of defence James Mattis-these fears would appear very justified. We lost in a fair and great game.

The protest on Saturday preceded the anti-NATO conference on Sunday, which will see dozens of activists and organizations from all over the word coming to Brussels, Iraklis Tsavdaridis, executive secretary of the World Peace Council (WPC), a self-described "anti-imperialist" global organization promoting diversity and universal disarmament, told RT.

Trump also said while the U.S. dedicates the bulk of the funding to the 69-year-old organization, Europe gets a lot more out of it than America.

"So they want to protect against Russia, yet they pay billions of dollars to Russia", Trump said. Any more than it'll stop him from doing any other thing.

Both Trump and Putin have been using bellicose rhetoric about their nuclear arsenals, drawing their countries closer to a new arms race.

Trump has insisted that he will be "totally prepared" for the summit with Putin, saying that he "might even end up having a good relationship" with the Russian strongman. "But right now, we have sanctions against Russian Federation due to their malign influence and the things they're doing that are very disruptive - trying to divide our alliance", Kay Bailey Hutchinson said.

Spanning both events is the biannual Farnborough air show in the United Kingdom, where defense companies and allied nations toggle between the welcome news of increased European defense spending and deeper cooperation against the Russian threat, and the conflicting messages sent from Washington over its commitments to North Atlantic Treaty Organisation allies and existing trade agreements.

Trump has drawn criticism from members of both parties since taking office for his hesitance to speak out against Putin and Russian Federation, particularly over its attempts to interfere in the 2016 election. US officials said the two sides this time would be discussing Russian election meddling, Russia's incursions in the Ukraine and involvement in Syria.

Huntsman assured reporters that Trump "knows the facts and the details and he's discussed it". "We have succeeded I believe, but it's time to take a step forward".
