  • GRAND RAPIDS MI- JUNE 17 Lee Anne Pace of South Africa hits her tee shot on the second hole during the final round of the Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give at Blythefield Country Club

South Korean Park Sung-hyun won her second major title when she overcame compatriot Ryu So-yeon and Japan's Nasa Hataoka in a three-way playoff at the Women's PGA Championship outside Chicago on Sunday. Ryu and Henderson were paired together and shared the 36-hole lead with Sung Hyun Park.

Ryu was able to increase her lead to two shots with a birdie on the same hole, but her tee shot on the 17th went into the water.

Park was consistent when it counted and didn't make a single bogey over the last 30 holes of the tournament. Park put herself in a bad position by almost hitting her ball in the water next to the green.

Ryu, Park and Hataoka went back to the 18th for the first playoff hole. She won the NW Arkansas Championship last week for her first tour title. She now sits just two-strokes back of the lead at four-under par heading into the weekend. The 19-year-old also rolled in birdie putts on holes 12, 15 and 16, saved par from a greenside bunker on No. 17 and again saved par from the back fringe on the last hole. And Park picked up her second straight birdie in the playoff to complete an impressive rally.

"Winning this tournament is going to be huge because I never really dreamed about becoming a Grand Slammer", she said. "And I think the tournament is all about confidence".

"She can move the ball as well as any player I have ever caddied for", he said. Yin said. "I don't need to say much". She also missed a bogey putt. The changes were effective for Park, as she had 27 putts in the final round and not a single bogey.

Ryu ended a almost year-long victory drought when she won the Meijer Classic two weeks ago, a result she achieved after a change in attitude. With the win, she took home total prize money of $547,500. She's earned $590,806 over the last two weeks after her win in Arkansas and the tie for second in IL.

"It's a great result considering where I started from", Hataoka said. "It was my first time shooting two eagles".

But Park secured her second major in less than a year with birdies on each of the two play-off holes.

After exploding onto the scene a year ago, Park found herself in a sophomore slump most of this season, missing five cuts. Park left zero doubt that she would part of the four-person team with her win on Sunday.

"Actually, this is my first time feeling this kind of emotion, being this emotional", Ryu said through an interpreter.

Top-ranked Inbee Park missed the cut at five-over 149, while New Zealand's Lydia Ko recovered from a first-round 74 to shoot a six-under 66 on day two and finish two shots adrift of the leading pack.

Both Park and Ryu will be in the field for this week's 2nd annual Thornberry Creek LPGA Classic, the next stop on tour.
