Sweden dominates Mexico 3-0, but both head to knockout round

  • Andreas Granqvist will have to rally his troops on Wednesday

In the first 45 minutes, Mexico found it hard to find a way past a compact Sweden side, a little and large battle up front between Javier Chicharito Hernandez and Adreas Granqvist hugely contributing to a goalless first half.

Alvarez completed Mexico's poor day on the pitch with a calamitous own goal but they survived in Russian Federation thanks to South Korea's win over Germany.

"We still haven't qualified properly, we haven't confirmed our progress, but who would have said we would have had six points by now in this group?" he said. With the goal differential advantage, Sweden won the group and will face Group E runner-up Switzerland on Tuesday.

Previously, Mexico topped Group F, which includes defending champions Germany, Sweden and South Korea.

"I'm so incredibly proud, nearly moved at the thought of how we performed on the pitch, so disciplined".

Janne Andersson praised his Sweden side as they reached the second round of the World Cup and helped dump Germany out.

Berg punctuated the match when his shot hit the side-netting in first half stoppage time, which proved the last kick of the half.

It allowed Sweden to relax and they doubled their lead after 62 minutes through Granqvist's second spot-kick of the tournament.

However, the 55-year-old coach is not taking Mexico lightly, with "El Tri" having already beaten Germany and South Korea.

Here's how to watch Mexico vs. Sweden online.

"For the first time in many, many games when we play against a team that play that approach, direct football, we had this formation".

"I've seen the images, we heard from players and leaders afterwards that the behaviour was very poor on behalf of the Germans", the defender added.

The Sweden-Mexico match was the last World Cup game to be played at the Yekaterinburg Arena. Several members of the squad, including Ochoa, were also lambasted for their presence at a farewell party attended by around 30 prostitutes.

"We are fearless enough not only to dream, but to work on those dreams so that we can make them true", Hernandez said.

That left Mexico in a perilous position, as a late German victor would have sent them crashing out, but two injury-time South Korean goals ensured Osorio's men edged through as runners-up.

To have 6 points already in a group that also includes Germany is incredible for Javier Hernandez and the rest of the Mexican squad. Both teams missed an array of chances, with the best of them falling to Germany as Mesut Ozil's delightful cross was picked up by Hummels in the box, but his header was woeful, to say the least.
