Pompeo told CNN that Trump's decision to suspend United States military exercises in the region will continue "only so long as there is a good-faith negotiation progress, productive results being achieved".

"There will be specific asks and there will be a specific timeline when we present the North Koreans with our concept of what implementation of the summit agreement looks like", the official said earlier this month.

Pompeo has said in the past that he wanted to see full North Korean denuclearization before the end of Trump's first term in 2020.

This weekend the Pentagon announced the formal suspension of major joint military exercises with South Korea, but said in a statement that "additional decisions will depend upon the DPRK continuing to have productive negotiations in good faith" with Pompeo.

"In North Korea, the separated families are the ones who are politically labeled as the family member of the ones who escaped to the South", said Ahn Chan-il.

U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korea's leader Kim Jong Un walk together before their working lunch during their summit at the Capella Hotel on the resort island of Sentosa, Singapore June 12, 2018.

"DoD remains committed to supporting the ongoing diplomatic process with the DPRK, of which there is no specific timeline", White wrote.

More than 36,500 United States troops died in the war, and about 7,700 military personnel remain unaccounted for. But Associated Press staff in the North Korean capital confirmed Monday that it would not be held.

During the summit, Kim reaffirmed a commitment toward complete denuclearization of the Korean peninsula, while Trump said he would halt joint US-South Korean "war games."

His trip there from June 26-28 will be the first by a U.S. defense secretary since 2014, and comes as Sino-U.S. tensions have heightened over trade and China's muscular military posture in the South China Sea.

So far, it hasn't said much about what Washington is interested in the most - denuclearization.

"The scope of the agreement and the event is very disappointing because there are at least 50,000 registered separate family members alive in South Korea alone", said Bong Young-shik, a political analyst with the Yonsei University's Institute for North Korean Studies in Seoul. "We have a great chairman, Kim, we have great chemistry".

North Korea's change in tone and messaging remains nuanced though.
