How Jeff Sessions Ultimately Played Trump On The Family Separation Policy

The Pentagon says it is searching nationwide for space on military installations that could be used to house adult migrants who have tried to cross the US border illegally. The factsheet did not say how reunifications would be handled in those cases.

She says she has been inundated with requests for help from the parents and the list is still growing.

Such planning is standard procedure for the Pentagon.

But Trump and some of the grieving family members he appeared with on Friday attempted to cast perspective on the border separations by discussing their own tragedies.

Rep. Anna Eshoo, D-Calif. said the current policy of separating kids from their parents has "brought great shame to a great country".

Lieu responded that Americans need to hear the tape.

Marshall traveled Saturday to the El Paso area as part of a bipartisan congressional group to meet with U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials and to tour a center holding 400 young immigrants near the Tornillo port of entry.

Within a minute, Lieu yielded back his time and the audio was cut off.

On Wednesday, President Donald Trump ordered the separation practice to stop.

"This is cruel and inhumane", she said, describing the inside of the facility as a "sea of humanity" of little girls, boys, fathers. "The separation here is from the facts".

Calling Democrats "obstructionists" and accusing them of not caring about border security, Trump tweeted Friday that voters need to elect more Republicans.

The House was initially scheduled to vote on the bill Thursday night, but it was pushed to Friday and then next week after members asked for more time to read the bill. While excoriating congressional Republicans for having "no higher ambition than to placate this president", he also chastises them as "president's poodles", or "abject careerists" with no interest in conservative principles of government.

He said he did not want people from "shithole countries" to come to the U.S.

It would be an embarrassment for the leaders, who have backed the compromise bill as the best option, if it got fewer votes on the floor than the conservative option.

Trump has tweeted that "Republicans should stop wasting their time" on the issue until after the elections, when he thinks the GOP will gain strength in Congress.

Republicans hold a narrower majority in the upper chamber, leading Mr Trump question on Thursday "what is the purpose" of the House voting on "good immigration bills", if they will be struck down by the Senate.

The compromise legislation would provide funding for Trump's border wall, close immigration loopholes and allow for parents and children to be detained together at the border, among other provisions.

Trump's comments come as House Republicans have been struggling to wrangle support for a comprehensive immigration bill.

And, in one sense, the president is right: None of the bills that the House has been considering - not even the clean DREAM Act - stand much chance of passing the Senate.

Meanwhile, the GOP leadership is plowing ahead with a plan to vote on an immigration bill negotiated by conservative and moderate Republicans next week.

The fate of 2,300 children wrested from their parents at the U.S. border with Mexico remained unclear, days after Donald Trump ordered an end to migrant family separations, as the president on Friday (June 22) accused Democrats of spinning "phony" tales of suffering for electoral gain.
