Police are searching for the two armed suspects and have urged anyone who witnessed the shooting to come forward. Just after 5:30 p.m., the authorities said that he had been pronounced dead. About an hour later, the sheriff's department said on Twitter that the man had been pronounced dead, and confirmed Onfroy's identity shortly thereafter.

Rapper XXXTentacion talked about dying a "tragic death" in an eerily prophetic Instagram video posted before he was gunned down in Florida Monday.

Jahseh Onfroy, the rapper who went by XXXTentacion, was shot and killed in Florida on Monday. Detectives say the shooting appears to be a possible robbery.

Broward County Sheriff's Office has tweeted that a $3,000 reward is now being offered for information that leads to an arrest.

The rapper had a long history of legal problems and was facing more than a dozen felony charges, as well as allegations of domestic violence. He released his debut album, 17, the same year, and followed it up with? One of them fired at him before they made off in an SUV.

But a backlash came nearly immediately, with people criticising those stars for failing to immediately condemn XXXTentacion - whose real name was Jahseh Onfroy - for some of the brutal acts he was accused of.

XXXTentacion recently earned his first No. 1 album on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart with ? He allegedly beat his pregnant girlfriend, and was arrested under further charges of false imprisonment, witness tampering, and aggravated battery. Kanye West said he was "inspired" by XXXTentacion and added "thank you for existing".

His music was removed from streaming giant Spotify's curated playlists for several weeks earlier this year because his lyrics allegedly promoted "hateful messages", Pitchfork reported.
