North Korea's Kim hails 'unity' with China in new visit

That Kim met with both Secretary of State and President Trump, to whom he delivered a letter from the North Korean chairman.

His call for action came as Mr. Kim concluded a two-day visit to Beijing to brief Chinese President Xi Jinping on the summit.

Following the June 12 summit in Singapore, Trump stunned USA lawmakers, allies and Pentagon officials with plans to halt military exercises with US ally South Korea and by Tuesday officially announced the cancellation of the exercises slated for August. After departing that gathering in Quebec, Trump attacked Justin Trudeau as "dishonest" and "weak" after the Canadian prime minister told reporters his government would retaliate against new US tariffs it viewed as unfair. Xi's wife Peng Liyuan (1st R) and Kim's wife Ri Sol Ju (1st L) also attended the meeting. Xi reportedly praised the outcome of the Singapore summit, calling it an "important step toward the political solution of the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue", according to the party-controlled press.

In 2007, North Korea agreed to repatriate the remains of six soldiers as the George W. Bush administration made its own disarmament attempt.

U.S. President Donald Trump holds a rally with supporters in Duluth, Minnesota, U.S. June 20, 2018.

During an interview with conservative pundit Mike Huckabee, the president touted his efforts to convince Kim Jong Un to abandon his nuclear test sites. The drills infuriate North Korea, which considers them a rehearsal for an invasion.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un pledged to deepen the relationship between Pyongyang and Beijing as he wrapped up his third trip to China on Wednesday, likening their ties to those within a family. "No decisions on subsequent war games have been made".

The two-day two-day visit was created to reassure Beijing that Pyongyang will not neglect its interests as Trump and the young autocrat move into uncharted diplomatic terrain.

"It's only a good deal if they dismantle all the facilities at Sohae and re-employ the scientists in something civilian", she said.

But the problem is that there is no consensus on what "denuclearization" means.

"No matter the changes in the worldwide and regional situation, China's party and government's resolute position on being dedicated to consolidating and developing Sino-North Korea relations will not change", he was quoted as saying.

China is less focused on getting Kim to give away his weapons than on getting him to fall into line.

The U.S. says China is in agreement on that point, although Chinese officials have repeatedly stated that sanctions should not be considered an end to their own.

"No matter the changes in the global and regional situation, China's party and government's resolute position on being dedicated to consolidating and developing Sino-North Korea relations will not change", the report cited Mr Xi as saying.

At the same time, he also wants to obtain economic help from China. "He's a dictator. He's killed so many innocent generals".
