Less than a week after quoting the Bible to justify separating immigrant children from their parents, Attorney General Jeff Sessions insists the USA doesn't want to break up families.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions dismissed comparisons of the detention facilities for migrant children to Nazi concentration camps by arguing that Nazis "were keeping the Jews from leaving the country".

The policy sought to aggressively prosecute adults crossing the U.S. -Mexico border illegally.

"What's happening on the border is having a direct impact on what's happening in New Jersey", New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir Grewal said in a statement.

Almost two dozen Democratic attorneys general are demanding that the Trump administration put an end to a policy that separates migrant children from their guardians at the border.

The administration's effort has been made more hard as Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen appeared to break with Sessions Monday, saying the policy was not meant to be a deterrent to immigrants contemplating illegal crossings.

In a statement, Swanson, who is also a DFL candidate for governor, reiterated her opposition to the policy, which has resulted in almost 2,000 children being separated from their parents since April.

"President Trump has said this can not continue", Sessions said.

Democratic attorneys general are demanding the Trump administration end a "zero tolerance" policy that has resulted in children being separated from their parents at the U.S. -Mexico border. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, a former Senate Judiciary Committee chairman and 11 other Republican senators also wrote to Sessions on Tuesday calling on the Justice Department to pause the practice of separating families while Congress works on a legislative fix. Examples of the racial discrimination that he has been accused of went beyond the immigration policies that he is enforcing.

Church members said "those seeking to justify slavery in America, those seeking to justify Apartheid in South Africa, and those seeking to justify the atrocities of the Third Reich" similarly quoted the scripture used by Sessions - Romans 13 - to "defend their reign of terror".

On Monday more than 600 clergy and lay leaders from the United Methodist Church accused Sessions of violating church law.

"What the Trump administration is doing is immoral and reprehensible", Healey said in a statement.

The first clarification that Reverend David Wright makes when people ask him about the complaint waged against Attorney General Jeff Sessions is that the United Methodist Church is not bringing the charges. In a column this week in USA Today, he said the policy was created to eliminate loopholes that allowed people to enter the US illegally with their children and insisted the children held at the border were "well cared for".

"If you are smuggling a child, then we will prosecute you and that child may be separated from you as required by law", Sessions said in May.
