Ronaldo and Portugal look to eliminate Morocco

Smarting after a last-gasp defeat to Iran, Morocco will have to deal with the peerless might of Portugal, spearheaded by Cristiano Ronaldo, who will attempt to follow up his World Cup opening game heroics when the two sides meet for a Group B clash here on Wednesday.

It's great news for subscribers of the theory that for a World Cup to be successful, you need the host nation to progress.

CR7 dazzled in his first match as he bagged the hattrick to earn a point for Portugal and rewrite the history books as he became the oldest player to notch up the three goals in one match at the world's biggest showpiece at the age of 33.

"For me, the most important thing is to emphasise what the team did against one of the favourites to win this World Cup".

Spain midfielder, Isco, has claimed that he is "not going to speak to Cristiano Ronaldo again", after his Real Madrid team-mate scored a hat-trick for Portugal against them.

The original bust, sculpted by local artist Emanuel Santos, had been the subject of much mockery, something the artist said made him sad and was not easy to take.

After Portugal, Morocco will play against La Roja (Spain) on June 25.

Iran arrived in Russian Federation with the second best qualifying record in the world in the final stage of Asian play with nine victories in 10 games.

The game itself should be straightforward for Uruguay, who won their opener 1-0 against a Mohamed Salah-less Egypt, as they face a Saudi Arabia team hammered 5-0 by hosts Russian Federation in the tournament's curtain-raiser.

The aircraft landed safely after what one of the Saudi players called a "simple malfunction". He spent half a decade in the Bundesliga, where he never scored double-digit goals in a single league campaign.

Earlier, Senegal secured the first win for an African nation at this tournament, benefiting from a awful error from Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny to beat Poland 2-1 in Moscow.
