Uruguay sinks Egypt with late goal

Expect a 4-2-3-1 from Egypt, with Salah in the attacking midfield on the wing.

Mohamed Salah, a national hero, jokingly said he would be keen to score at the Russian Federation finals to silence Abdel-Ghani.

Despite being two-time champions, Uruguay hadn't won their first group stage match since 1970, drawing three and losing three.

Salah, who will celebrate his 26th birthday on the day of the game, is undoubtedly Egypt's main man despite the Liverpool's striker struggles to overcome the dislocated shoulder he sustained in the Champions League final loss to Real Madrid.

"Mo is doing very well indeed".

The Egypt fans in the stadium were expecting to see Salah play, especially after boss Hector Cuper had said on Thursday that he could "almost 100% assure" media that Salah would feature.

"I can nearly 100 percent say he will play, save for any unforeseen factors at the last minute", Cuper told ESPN and other reporters during a news conference.

Keeping Salah in reserve could be a move which pays off later as they come up against Russian Federation and Saudi Arabia.

Creating only the most occasional of chances without the free-scoring Liverpool man in their starting XI, the presence of Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani guaranteed that their opponents Uruguay would have no such issue.

"Some Optus Sport customers experienced a disruption to their 2018 FIFA World Cup viewing experience on Friday night", they said.

"For three years and a few months we've decided on a certain path".

African teams are winless in their last 19 World Cup encounters with South American teams (drew four, lost 15) since Cameroon beat Colombia in June 1990.

Listen to the RealSport football writers discuss Group A in Kremlins in the Basement: RealSport's daily World Cup podcast. "Sometimes, you have to flawless and fine-tune the things that you do well".

"Perhaps we still need to work a bit more on defence", Cuper admitted. Television ads, billboards, newspaper articles and social media posts have aroused high passions in the football-mad country.

After 80 minutes in which nearly nothing had happened, other than the non-appearance of Mohamed Salah, Uruguay in the final minutes had just begun to increase the pressure.

"At the end of the training session we examined him and there was some doubt if he fell or was hit by another player, and we wanted to avoid a risk today", Cuper said.
