  • Apple Updates App Store Guidelines, Tightens Rules for Crypto-Related Apps

The company announced a new update to its developer guideline where it said apps may not run on unrelated background processes, such as cryptocurrency mining.

Perhaps, the iPhone maker's new policy is partly, if not entirely, motivated by concerns that mining could drain the batteries of devices.

According to a report by CNBC, the tech giant recently updated developer guidelines, shifting its stance toward mining for digital currencies like bitcoin.

Not that anyone would seriously use an iPhone to mine cryptocurrencies.

"With the Health Records API open to our incredible community of developers and researchers, consumers can personalize their health needs with the apps they use every day".

Cloud-based mining allows the user to take advantage of a shared processing power which is generally run from data centers.

In the Library tab, you can peruse your full collection of books with large, easy-to-see cover art, including the books downloaded to your device and a Finished section showcasing the books you have read in the past and the date you finished them, displayed in a timeline.

Cryptocurrency mining is a process which requires a lot of computational power. At that time too Apple had mentioned battery drain and excessive heat as the reasons to implement the ban. It also insisted that apps involved in Initial Coin Offerings, cryptocurrency futures trading and the like had to come from established banks, securities firms, futures commissions merchants or other approved financial institutions.

Prior to WWDC, Apple allowed all apps to mine cryptocurrency and facilitate ICOs, provided that they did so legally.

So developers looking at filling their apps with miners to generate a little bit of extra income could find themselves in hot water with Apple or have their apps yanked from the App Store.

And apps may not offer cryptocurrency as an incentive for taking specific actions, such as downloading other apps, posting to social media or urging others to download apps.
