  • Watch: US woman arrested after children filmed in car in pet kennels

Authorities say a Memphis woman was arrested after video showed her transporting two children in pet kennels.

They said they had charged Cheeks with two counts of Child Endangerment.

The video was filmed by a concerned citizen who was passing by.

Footage of the incident, which was sent to police by an anonymous bystander, shows the moment the woman let her grandchildren out of the kennels, which were placed in the back of her vehicle.

Cheeks admitted that she drove while the children were in the kennels from Whitehaven to Collierville, which is a 35-minute drive.

She was arrested on two counts of child endangerment and was later released on bond.

A Tennessee woman accused of driving her two young grandchildren around in pet kennels is scheduled to appear in court.

"I'm just so sad for the babies".

The neighbor we talked to says she doesn't know what the grandmother was thinking but says, as an adult, a different call should have been made. She seems like a nice lady.

"Despicable", Sonrisa Schweddy wrote on Memphis Police Department's Facebook announcement of Cheek's arrest.

According to an affidavit, the two kids ages 7 and 8 told investigators they were put in the kennels because they were told there was not enough room inside of the vehicle. Wow, " neighbor Skylarr Blake told WREG.

Another resident, Skylark Blake told the local press that Mrs Cheeks is a "nice lady" and he "can't see her doing that".

"I think she needs some help". She said they were later allowed to ride in the backseat.

The 62-year-old was being held Sunday at Shelby County Jail.
