  • Parental controls are coming to iOS. Here's what you can do with them

Apple also showed off a new AR tool, Measure, that turns your phone into an $800 ruler.

The paradox emerged Monday as Apple executives previewed new versions of free software due out this fall.

The great news is all devices now able to run iOS 11 can update to the new software, even if you're using 2013's iPhone 5s. The Facetime feature has also been altered to help users create a group with 32 people.

The array of features being added to software powering Apple devices included being able to make group FaceTime video calls; letting third-party applications work on Apple Watch, expanding the abilities of Siri digital assistant and delivering a platform for augmented reality applications.

Using standardized internet and smartphone addiction tests, researchers have found that addicted teenagers have significantly higher scores in depression, anxiety, insomnia severity and impulsivity. Some outlets are claiming that you may be able to unlock the iPad with your iPhone's Face ID, similar to unlocking you Mac with Apple Watch. The display can also be set to dim automatically just before bedtime.

In September it will be introducing "Screen Time" to provide users with weekly reports of their app usage and allow them to restrict these times, whether it be at night or at gyms.

"Screen Time" is the cherry on the phone time management cake.

Parents will be able to set limits for time their children set in apps, and get detailed reports regarding which apps are used. Safari will also help users develop strong passwords and to change them on time.

Although Apple cut the price of battery replacements for the affected handsets, the company has found a way to boost the performance of its old handsets with its iOS 12 mobile software, expected to launch later this year.

Cook has been Apple's CEO since August 2011 and is the first CEO to run the company since the death of founder Steve Jobs. Facebook and Google make the vast majority of their money by selling ads.

The new feature could make Siri more competitive.

Chris Hoofnagle, faculty director of the Berkeley Center for Law & Technology, believes Apple's move will prod rivals Mozilla and Microsoft to do the same, though Google may remain a holdout with the Chrome browser given the company's dependence on ads and data.

Apple has dealt with a number of scandals over the past year. In order to use this button, a user needs to be logged in to their Facebook account, and long story short, this is how Facebook knows what the user has liked and how it gets a map of every Like-enabled site a user has been to - exactly the kind of information advertisers would kill to have.

Apple rolled out new support for augmented reality as it unveiled a new format for digital objects that appear to live in the real world.

At WWDC on Monday, Apple announced some new skills for Siri as part of iOS 12.

What is clear is that Apple is banking on users becoming more interested in AR experiences.
