USA officials said the North Korea delegation would come to Washington to meet Trump and deliver the message on Friday, one week after Trump had abruptly called off preparations for the planned June 12 summit in a sharply-worded letter of his own.

It has been scheduled for June 12 in Singapore.

President of Syria Bashar Al-Assad intends to travel to North Korean and meet with DPRK leader Kim Jong Un, the state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported on Sunday.

Trump met with Kim Yong Chol, a top aide to Kim Jong Un and former North Korean spy.

"We now know that we're going to welcome the North Koreans to DC tomorrow". If the meeting takes place, we hope the emissary expresses an irrevocable commitment to denuclearization and that Trump, in return, vows to offer a compensation package, including a guarantee of regime security, so that both leaders can have a successful summit in Singapore. During the announcement, he later said that he hadn't even opened the letter.

Since that short-lived crisis, diplomats in both countries have conducted an intense flurry of negotiations, culminating on Thursday when Pompeo sat down in NY with Kim's number two, Kim Yong Chol.

Right after his meeting Friday with Kim Yong Chol, President Trump told reporters he had not yet read the letter.

It's the highest-level official North Korean visit to the United States in 18 years. The official was not authorized to speak publicly about the details of the meeting and spoke on condition of anonymity. "Oh, would you like to see what was in that letter?" "I think you're going to have a really positive result in the end, not from one meeting".

Both countries have faced global isolation - North Korea over its nuclear weapons programme and Syria over its civil war.

Trump sought to play down expectations of a quick breakthrough at the upcoming meeting in Singapore, saying that a resolution of the decades-long dispute over North Korea's nuclear weapons and ballistic missile programs could require multiple sessions. The president and the North Korean delegates then posed for group photographs.

Trump echoed Pompeo's comments on Thursday when he said while on board Air Force One: "I'd like to see it done in one meeting, but often times that's not the way deals work".

Kim said she was there in April, talking with people about the conversation happening between these two world powers.
