"Valve continued that the developer and publisher is, in fact, a person calling himself Ata Berdiyev, who operated as "Elusive Team" and "[bc] Interactive".

Meanwhile, Valve also confirmed via a statement to Deadline that they have also removed the game's developer, Revived Games, and publisher, ACID, from Steam.

Berdiyev had been kicked off the Steam site last fall, but returned to Steam using different business names.

Marketing materials for the game, developed by Revived Games and published by a Russian company called Acid, promised to let players choose between portraying a SWAT team member responding to a shooting or portraying an actual shooter whose objective was to "hunt and destroy".

A computer game labelled "despicable" by the parents of recent U.S. school shooting victims has been dumped from Valve's online game marketplace Steam.

Valve Corporation is a video game development company. His identity was disclosed in the course of consideration by the company Active Shooter. "We can't expect those people to be the only ones who stand up against things like this".

Valve has a reputation for its loose moderation of comments and games on the Steam platform, which was first launched in 2003.

"The broader conversation about Steam's content policies is one that we'll be addressing soon", the Valve statement said. But various studies on games and violent crime, including one from the University of Texas in 2011, have indicated no correlation or the opposite holding true - such as higher rates of video game sales coinciding with a drop in crime.

"First of all, this game does not promote any sort of violence, especially any sort of a mass shooting", said publisher Acid in response to the criticism against Active Shooter. She pointed to the video game "Hatred" which allowed players to act out mass killings.

But Markey said his research does not mean that he condones games such as "Active Shooter", which he condemned as "extremely objectionable" and clearly created to stir controversy.

At Bits+Pixels, Benkel says customers need an I.D. or a parent with them to buy the more violent games.

While Ledonne was trying to say something about video games, regardless of whether or not you believe he was successful, that sets him apart from many other creators of school shooting video games.
