At least two New Jersey police officers have been reassigned to desk duty in the wake of a viral video showing them repeatedly punching a young woman in the head, then putting her in a chokehold, on a Wildwood beach over the weekend.

Emily Weinman of Philadelphia was at the New Jersey beach with her daughter, her daughter's father and a friend when the officers approached them on Saturday and ask them if there were any underage drinking going on. She's facing two counts of aggravated assault on a police officer, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest and other charges, according to Wildwood police.

Video shows Weinman touch the officer moments before her arrest.

"She assaults them, she spits at them, she kicks them, but right away the police officer at that point did what he had to do", said Troiano.

Wildwood police asked anyone who was present and has video of the altercation to come forward to help their internal affairs investigation, in which Cape May County officers will also be assisting.

Weinman, who said in a now-deleted Facebook post that the incident occurred after police questioned her for having alcohol nearby, appears to kick her leg and says, "You can't hit me like that".

Weinman said in a Facebook post she was approached for underage drinking. Did she deserve to get hit?

In a press release on Wednesday, police say Weinman "forcibly struck" the officer in the torso and caused the camera to turn off. She's heard telling officers it belongs to her aunt before she's given a breathalyzer test twice and asked her age and name.

"She refused to comply", he added.

Weinman's arrest and the way the officers handled the situation remains under investigation.

"She tried kicking at us, so I slammed her on the ground", the officer later tells his supervisor, after the woman has been tackled, handcuffed and shoved into the back of a police vehicle. "I didn't see her put her hands behind her back. That's when he head locked me me by his arm around my neck, punched on me in my head and then he head locked me again but this time choking me, I was gasping for [air]".

After the camera is turned back on, Weinman is heard screaming as officers try to handcuff.

She said she shared the video - which has been shared more than 130,000 times online - because the "situation was handled wrongly and blew out of proportion". "She tried to tell us it was okay for her to possess alcohol and that doesn't make any sense".
