The Keeping Up With The Kardashians star arrived at the White House on Wednesday afternoon local time to meet with Jared Kushner - President Trump's son-in-law and senior adviser - who also oversees the administration's push to overhaul the nation's prison system. She appeared to preview the visit on her Twitter feed, writing: "Happy Birthday Alice Marie Johnson".

Earlier, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders had confirmed Kim Kardashian would be visiting.

Alice Marie Johnson is now serving life in prison without parole.

Williams then said "people are gonna be pissed" if Kardashian is successful in getting Johnson pardoned, specifically people "who don't like the Kardashians", before dropping some shade herself.

While Kardashian was a known supporter of Hilary Clinton during the 2016 United States election, her husband Kanye West has been vocal in his support for Trump, repeatedly wearing "Make America Great Again" merchandise and tweeting his controversial views.

According to New York Magazine, Kardashian learned of Johnson's case past year and has spoken with senior adviser Jared Kushner, President Trump's son-in-law and Ivanka's husband, several times about the case.

Kushner has spearheaded a White House initiative to help better prepare prisoners for life after incarceration.

Some critics of the effort say it doesn't go far enough and want lawmakers to include reductions in sentencing guidelines, a step opposed by the White House and the Justice Department. "Today is for you", adding the prayer hands emoji.

Writing in the CNN in 2016, Johnson admitted she "made the biggest mistake" of her life to "make ends meet".

Now, Kim says that she is optimistic that Alice will get given a second chance.

She also shared a tweet about a man who was sentenced to only 90 days of house arrest after raping a child.

Kardashian and husband Kanye West, an outspoken Trump fan, have worked hard to advocate for Johnson's release.

The president recently mused that some drug dealers could be prime candidates for the death penalty.

Alice Marie Johnson was sent to prison on eight criminal counts in 1996. The 1997 charges were Johnson's first.

She was accompanied by her personal attorney, Shawn Holley, who is helping Johnson. Johnson is now sentenced to life in prison at the Aliceville Correctional Facility in Alabama. While President Obama granted 1,927 clemency requests before leaving office, Johnson was not one of them. "I'll do whatever it takes to get her out".
