Pope Francis reportedly told a gay man 'God made you like this'

Juan Carlos Cruz, a victim of clerical sexual abuse, told Spanish newspaper El Pais that he spent three days with the pope at the Vatican in April.

The Catholic Church's catechism, which summarizes the church's doctrinal positions, states that homosexuality's "psychological genesis remains largely unexplained".

"Juan Carlos, I don't care about you being gay", the pope reportedly said.

"It goes beyond 'who am I to judge?' to 'you are loved by God, '" Lamb said. "The pope loves you the way you are; you have to be happy with who you are".

The Roman Catholic Church traditionally opposes same-sex marriage and considers homosexuality "objectively disordered", and contrary to God's law.

Whether or not the pope meant to break ground, there was a time when the Catholic Church taught that sexual orientation was not something people choose.

"If a person is gay and seeks God and has good will, who am I to judge?" he said on his first overseas trip in 2013.

In Pope Francis' latest display of progressive religious views, a victim of sexual abuse at the hands of a Catholic priest says His Holiness told him that it "does not matter" to God that he is gay.

The comments were welcomed by some people, who praised the Pope's open-mindedness.

José Andrés Murillo, another victim, said Pope Francis should accept the mass resignation offer.

"The pope is saying what every reputable biologist and psychologist will tell you, which is that people do not choose their sexual orientation", Martin said in a telephone interview.

"The important thing is that the Church be a woman, that [it] has this attitude of a bride and of a mother", he said, adding that "when we forget this, it is a masculine Church".

On Friday, May 19, 34 of them resigned after meeting with Francis who berated them for failing to address the "criminal acts" of the pedophile priests in their dioceses.

It was then that the pope reassured him, he said. "Tendencies, hormonal imbalance, have and cause so many problems... we must be attentive".

Some of the Vatican investigator's findings were included in the report, according to Chile's T13 television, which acquired a leaked copy. Not to say that it's all the same, but in each case, welcome, accompany, study, discern and integrate. "The one who says who goes to heaven is God".

Chilean bishops at the heart of the sex abuse scandal threatened to resign en masse last week after being summoned to Rome to explain their part in a crisis that has rocked the predominantly Catholic country. Cruz and other activists want to see the bishops removed, and Francis' credibility is on the line ... in that story, anyway.
