Facebook says it has suspended about 200 apps that it believes may have misused data, as part of its investigations in the wake of the Cambridge Analytica data privacy scandal.

Now, the firm's VP of Product Partnerships, Ime Archibong, has posted an update on the situation claiming that the investigation "is in full swing". Archibong had also hinted that a team consisting of both internal and external auditors has been deployed in order to investigate all the apps which had a large number of user base.

This app investigation was all outlined in the plan set forth months ago by Facebook CEO and founder Mark Zuckerberg. Facebook's data policy was changed back in 2014 to reduce the amount of information that apps had available to them.

The company said users could check this website to learn whether they or their friends installed an app that misused data before 2015, according to the blog post. He gave no examples of suspended apps.




Facebook didn't identify any of the 200 apps.

Facebook users who took part in the app developer's quiz, entitled "This is Your Digital Life", gave the app developer access to their Facebook data, and the data belonging to their Facebook friends, most of whom were unaware of that fact. In addition, a username and password to access the information was publicly available on code-sharing website GitHub, something Facebook discovered through a data-abuse bounty program it announced in April.

It has also been revealed that Cambridge Analytica had at one stage requested access to the data but was rejected due to its political associations. If so, the app and its developers will be banned from the platform. Having another Cambridge-based outfit caught harvesting details from millions of users is hardly a good look for Zuck and Co. If an app sticks out as potentially more nefarious than the rest, it'll get audited-with a failure to cooperate resulting in its banishment from Facebook. Instead, the company merely said that it's "investing heavily to make sure this investigation is as thorough and timely as possible".

Now, Facebook users can check if Cambridge Analytica accessed their data on a page created by Facebook.
