Cooped up in an attic for months on end, Anne Frank jotted down some of her observations about life in her diary.

Mystery has swirled around the two pages of Anne Frank's diary where brown paper was pasted over the writing. "They make it clear that Anne, with all her gifts, was above all also an ordinary girl".

"Anne Frank writes about sexuality in a disarming way".

Researchers in Amsterdam have uncovered the words on two hidden pages of Anne Frank's diary in which the German-Jewish teen explored sexuality, dirty jokes, prostitution, and puberty. With new photo-imaging software, researchers at the Anne Frank House, in conjunction with the two other Dutch institutes Leopold mentioned, were able to see through the concealment.

The first was written in a series of small notebooks, from her 13th birthday on June 12, 1942, until August 1, 1944, and was intended strictly for herself.

"The diary of Anne Frank is a world heritage object with great historical value, and this justifies research into it", the institution said.

In a snippet of the text, she explains how women get their periods around 14 years of age, and said it "a sign that she is ripe to have relations with a man but one doesn't do that of course before one is married". In her diary, she wrote about other jokes that were sexual in nature, discussed her changing body and menstruation, and explored her own budding sexual feelings toward members of the same and opposite sex. He edited and published her writings in hiding after the war, making Anne Frank one of the world's most famous Holocaust victims.Anne Frank wrote the jokes on September 28, 1942, just three months after the family began their two-year stay at the hiding place. On prostitution, Frank noted that "in Paris they have big houses for that".

The hidden texts were presented by the Huygens Institute for the History of the Netherlands, the Anne Frank House and the NIOD Institute for War, Holocaust and Genocide Studies. Only Anne Frank's father, Otto, survived the Holocaust.

Mr Leopold said it shows how Miss Frank "creates a fictional situation that makes it easier for her to address the sensitive topics that she writes about".

The Lynn Classical High School Drama Club will perform "The Diary of Anne Frank" on Friday, May 18 and Saturday the 19th at 6 p.m. Tickets are $5.

Anne Frank died of disease in a Nazi death camp in 1945, the year the war ended.

The Diary of a Young Girl became one of the world's most widely read books, available in more than 70 languages.
