  • The House That Jack Built Trailer Lars Von Trier

Lars von Trier has just premiered his new film "The House That Jack Built" this past Monday at the Cannes Film Festival [VIDEO] and it seems that the feature has already racked up quite an intense audience response.

After this ironic encounter gives him a taste for butchery, we see him strangling, stabbing and shooting innocent victims and then arranging their corpses, like shop-window mannequins, in a cold storage unit alongside shelves of frozen pizzas. You can check out a few Twitter reactions below.

Nevertheless Lars still has his fans, with a six-minute standing ovation taking place during the end credits. The film looks visually inventive, and I like the idea of Matt Dillon having a big role to sink his teeth into. However, Von Trier's movie led to more than 100 moviegoers leaving the theater before the movie was over because of the sadistic scenes, The Guardian reported. Gross. Pretentious. Vomitive. Torturous.

Some of those who walked out tweeted their disgust at The House That Jack Built.

Entertainment reporter Roger Friedman described it as a "vile movie" that "should not have been made".

- The Oscar Predictor (@OscarPredictor) May 14, 2018why can't Lars von Trier just make a normal fcking movie for once. pushing limits is one thing but he's just a complete sadist expressing his narcissism and contempt for the world through his art.

Trailers for the film were also released following its debut at Cannes.

The story follows Jack (Matt Dillion), a serial killer, over the course of 12 years and depicts the murders that truly develop Jack as a serial killer. Jack is telling Verge about five "incidents" he's picked from his murdering career, which seems to run through the 1970s in an unspecified United States town. Now, von Trier has been given permission to return to Cannes, and he's doing so with The House That Jack Built. Along the way we experience Jack's descriptions of his personal condition, problems and thoughts through a recurring conversation with the unknown Verge - a grotesque mixture of sophistry mixed with an nearly childlike self-pity and in-depth explanations of, for Jack, risky and hard maneuvers.
