Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov and his Iranian counterpart Abbas Arakchi met in Tehran, Moscow said on Thursday.

"The Russian side highlighted its commitment to preserving the agreement", the statement further said. During the consultations in Tehran, the issue of maintaining the agreement on the Iranian nuclear program was discussed, as well as overcoming the consequences of U.S. economic sanctions on Tehran.

A day after Trump's controversial decision, which triggered global condemnations, Russian President Vladimir Putin voiced his "deep concern" over his American counterpart's withdrawal from the accord.

He added: "We will also have to analyze what consequences the United States' withdrawal will have for European companies and how we in Europe can react to them together".

Heiko Maas said Wednesday that "the agreement is working".

Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Thursday called on countries that oversaw the deal to "develop steps that would preserve this document that is important for regional stability".

He added that Russia had warned Israel to avoid "all actions that could be seen as provocative" the day before the strikes, when Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was in Moscow for talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Tehran had earlier warned that it has prepared several options for responding to USA withdrawal.
