  • Fox News quoting Western sources said an Iranian military base in Syria was the target of the attack

It says Israeli defense systems intercepted "some" of the incoming rockets and damage on the Israeli side was minimal.

"Aside from an Israeli reply, as Iran shows its displeasure with the Trump decision, it is quite possible that disturbances will escalate in all of the other areas - the occupied territories, Syria, Lebanon and Yemen".

Russia is unlikely to try to limit Israel's military actions in Syria, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Wednesday after meeting Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Lt. Col. Jonathan Conricus, an Israeli military spokesman, said earlier that Iran's Al Quds force fired the rockets at several Israeli bases, though he would not say how Israel determined the Iranian involvement. "This event is not over".

"An American announcement that it's withdrawing from the agreement would let Iran drive a wedge between the world powers and gradually loosen global oversight over its nuclear program", Amos Gilad, a retired senior Israeli defense official, told the Haaretz newspaper for a story published this week.

It ignored Iran's role as the world's largest sponsor of state terror, its complicity in the killings of a half-million Syrians and its threats to destroy the state of Israel. Syria and Iran have accused Israel of carrying out a series of airstrikes on Iranian targets in Syria in recent weeks.

AIR raid sirens are blaring in the annexed Golan Heights region after suspected Syrian air strikes following reports of an Israeli bombing campaign near Damascus.

Iran has blamed Israel for an April 9 strike that killed seven of its personnel at a Syrian airbase and has vowed revenge. The goal of these attacks seems to be Iranian assets in Syria, not Assad. Hours later, Israeli rocket rockets targeted a military base in Kisweh, a commander in the pro-Syrian government regional alliance said.

Israel later said the drone had been armed.

Israeli authorities, warning of "abnormal movements of Iranian forces in Syria, ordered the opening of all bomb shelters in Israel's northern Golan Heights, though residents have been encouraged to go about their daily lives as normal".

Israel describes Iran as its biggest threat and Hezbollah as the biggest threat on its borders.
