A deadly thunderstorm with winds gusting up to 100 kmph had hit Rajasthan and west Uttar Pradesh on 2 May, killing over 100 people.

The weather department has predicted thunderstorm and rain on May 7 and May 8 and sounded high alert. Metro authorities explained that the trains will function normally if the winds are within 70-90 kmph. The administration also issued an advisory to the people to take preventive steps in order to save themselves from the strong winds and rain which is expected. Six flights landing in Delhi and one flight which was to depart were delayed due to the storm. Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar cancelled the holidays of municipality officials, according to the Hindustan Times.

Meanwhile, dust storms, rain and thunder lashed parts of northern India on Tuesday, uprooting trees and blowing the roofs off homes in Himachal Pradesh's Shimla district but striking with less fury in other places.




Haryana had announced on Sunday that schools would remain shut until Tuesday. It has said that taking bath or shower in running might make people vulnerable to electric shock as lightning current might run through the pipe. The wind speed is said to be 50-70 km/hour across the warned states.

The Delhi Traffic Police's has advised people not to panic and avoid travelling when the storm hits the place. "If the wind speed is reported more than 90 kmph then trains will be put on hold at platforms and no train will enter platform with a speed of more than 15 kmph", a senior DMRC official told PTI.

The met department has issued warnings about thunderstorms and squalls across 20 states: Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Bihar, Assam, Meghalaya, West Bengal, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Sikkim, Odisha, Telangana, north Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
