North Korea went on a single time with South Korea

  • North Korea went on a single time with South Korea

Trump also pushed back on a report that he's considering the withdrawal of US forces from South Korea.

The time change was made nearly exactly one week after North and South Korean leaders held a historic inter-Korean summit in a town near the Demilitarized Zone between their two countries. "We now have a date and we have a location".

The president commented on the summit on Friday, speaking to reporters as he left the White House to travel to Dallas, Texas.

"The trip is being scheduled", Trump said.

He had confirmed on Twitter that a meeting was being planned, despite the two leaders trading insults for months and economic sanctions on North Korea being ramped up in response to its nuclear weapons programme.

According to its website, North Korea's state-owned carrier Air Koryo flies to cities in Russian Federation and China, two countries that maintain diplomatic relations with Pyongyang.

They also said the request was not meant to be a bargaining chip in upcoming nuclear talks with the North, which has long demanded the withdrawal of America's military from the South. It remains unclear if Kim has relaxed that demand as he turns to diplomacy with adversaries after a year of escalating tensions.

Trump said that withdrawing US forces from South Korea is "not on the table".

In a symbolic move meant to showcase North Korea's willingness to pursue a permanent peace treaty with South Korea, Pyongyang set its clocks 30 minutes forward on Friday (Saturday, Korea time) to sync up its time with Seoul. And I think you're going to be seeing very good things.

Following last week's historic meeting between North and South Korean leaders, North Korea has pledged to change its time zone to match the South, the BBC reports. DPRK is the acronym for North Korea's official name, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

Trump has frequently raised the possibility of removing troops from South Korea on the campaign trail and since taking office. Two weeks ago, shortly before the inter-Korean summit, Moon said that Kim actually wasn't insisting on a longstanding demand for the withdrawal of USA troops as a precondition for abandoning his nukes.

South Korea's national security adviser, Chung Eui-yong, is now in Washington for talks with his United States counterpart John Bolton.

"The president has not asked the Pentagon to provide options for reducing American forces stationed in South Korea".

But the rapidly evolving peace process with the North has led to suggestions that US troops might not be needed if a treaty is signed.
