"Spies steal documents all the time", said Schanzer of Israel's massive document dump on Monday, "but this was a huge cache". But a UK-based monitoring group said four Syrians and 22 foreigners, mostly Iranians, died. Iranian media said the strikes killed at least 18 Iranians, including a commander.

Israeli Intelligence Minister Yisrael Katz told army radio on Monday morning that he was "not aware" of the latest strikes.

Assuming Israel was behind the explosions, it shows Israel's willingness to confront Iran directly in Syria.

"We remain deeply concerned about Iran's risky escalation of threats to Israel and the region and Iran's ambition to dominate the Middle East remains", Pompeo said after a almost two-hour meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. What we could do is, we've driven ISIS out of eastern Syria.

The Syrian Army attributed "aggression" against its facilities in provinces of Hama (centre) and Aleppo (north) to "enemy", in a clear allusion to Israel.

Since then, Israel's focus has shifted to Iran and blocking its ambitions on various fronts: to prop up Assad, establish a military presence close to Israel's northern border and use Syria as a conduit for transferring arms to Hezbollah.

In both Israeli attacks this month, Iranian fighters were reported to be among the causalities by activists. The main target would be bases where Iranian forces have been located since the Syrian civil war began. For the first time, Israeli planes would face a real risk of being shot down if they violated Syrian airspace.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups now controlling parts of it.

The president said that there is an escalation in the foreign aggression on Syria, adding that the foreign powers have become directly engaged in the attacks after their schemes in Syria were rendered flat when the rebels they are backing have largely failed.

The sprawling semi-rural area east of Damascus had been home to thousands of armed Islamist and jihadist fighters, who were besieged for years but sporadically fired rockets and mortar rounds on the capital. Also, on April 28, the Syrian army is reported to have liberated areas in southern Damascus from Islamic State militants.

"In the night from 29 to 30 April, a rocket attack struck the base proasadovskih forces in Syria".

Iran's semi-official Tasnim news agency on Monday quoted chief of Fatimayoun Brigade, an Iran-backed Afghan militia in Syria fighting alongside Iranian forces, as saying their base near Aleppo was not targeted during the strikes and they had no casualties.

The transfer deal does not include IS fighters, but other jihadists from a former Al-Qaeda affiliate who control pockets inside Yarmuk, Abdel Rahman said.
