This year marks 103 years since Australians fought at Anzac Cove.

Each year thousands of Australians and New Zealanders make their way to Turkey to attend the Anzac Day dawn service at Anzac Cove. Anzac Day is so much more than an opportunity to eat the cookies named after it, so here's how it has been honoured across the world.

Despite the chance of a shower in the city, the rain has largely stayed away from dawn services across South Australia. The couple also attended a special memorial service at the Westminster Abbey.

TODAY will be an emotional day for thousands of Toowoomba residents as they remember family and friends who gave their lives in war-time.

An estimated 44,000 Allied soldiers were killed in the Gallipoli campaign, according to the Australian War Memorial.

"Some with a deep conviction that they were fighting for king and empire, some fighting for peace and justice, others were young lads who saw an opportunity for adventure - none could have foreseen the hell on the frontline and in the trenches".

Up to 50,000 people are expected for the service, the 103rd anniversary of the landing at Gallipoli.

Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull joined French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe and the Prince of Wales for the ceremony. Tens of thousands of Turkish nationals and soldiers died, along with tens of thousands of Europeans, plus around 7,000 - 8,000 Australians and almost 3,000 New Zealanders.

The tourists were making their way to Gallipoli for Anzac Day services.

He also laid wreaths at the monument, followed by Australian deputy head of Mission Michael Growder and representatives from Indonesia, Japan, Brunei and France.

World War Two veterans, some of them former prisoners of war (POWs), gathered in Thailand's western province of Kanchanaburi to remember the thousands of POWs and Asian laborers who died when Japanese occupying forces put them to work on the infamous "death railway", a supply route to Japanese troops in the then Burma, now Myanmar.
