  • Palestinian protesters set up tents at the Gaza Strip's border with Israel Thursday

Reports in Palestinian media identified the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades member as Thaer Nayef al-Zaraie.

"Yesterday Israeli soldiers again opened fire on protesters in Gaza using live ammunition from across the border fence killing four Palestinians, including a 15-year-old, and wounding more than 150".

Ynet, an Israeli news site, also reported on Sunday that Batsh was a member of Hamas's armed wing, the Izzadin Kassam Brigades, and was tasked with procuring missile and drone technology.

To his part, Minister of Education, Naftali Bennett said they "will not allow the entry of the body of Al-Batsh, who was killed in Malaysia, unless Hamas returns Israeli soldiers detained in Gaza by Hamas".

Hamas said Palestinian engineer Fadi al-Batsh was a "loyal" member and a "scientist of Palestine's youth scholars".

It was not clear what the possible motive was, and so far no arrests has been made, he added.

Hamas initially stopped short of blaming Israel, saying only that he had been "assassinated by the hand of treachery".

The family of the Palestinian professor accused Israel's Mossad spy agency of killing him.

Ismail Haniyeh told The Associated Press Saturday that based on previous assassinations "Mossad is not away from this disgraceful, bad crime". He visited the mourning tent outside the house of al-Batsh's family in Jabaliya in the north of the Gaza Strip. "We can not give up on the blood of our sons, youths and scholars".

Israel has drawn harsh criticism from rights groups along with calls for investigations by the United Nations or the European Union.

However, he did not respond directly when asked if Israel was behind the killing. "We can not confirm yet that the killers are European as claimed by some witnesses", he said.

Al-Quds said Jewish fanatics broke into Al-Aqsa Mosque in a provocative manner as well as into West Bank villages such as Sebastia in the north of the West Bank and Yatta in the south. "The man was no saint and he didn't deal with improving infrastructure in Gaza - he was involved in improving rockets' accuracy.", he claimed. "I assume this was the case here too". "I have to investigate very carefully and deeply". "Gaza is much closer than Malaysia".

An global human rights group late Saturday called on the United Nations to have a "permanent" presence in the "Great March of Return" protests along the Gaza-Israel borders, which this year have seen at least 39 Palestinians martyred by Israeli forces.

The Israeli government had no comment.

"Haniyeh and his friends should be careful before they talk ... because Israel's ability to hurt them will be absolute, hard and swift", Katz went on to say.
