Last night's tally ended 5-0 in favor of the Pittsburgh Penguins who now return home with a 3-1 series lead and look to wrap things up on Friday night at PPG Paints Arena. The Flyers went into this series as the clear underdogs, but so far the first round has just served to emphasize the gap between Philadelphia and a major Stanley Cup contender like Pittsburgh.

Sidney Crosby might be the greatest of his generation, but it has to be humbling to know that he has nearly no chance of matching Mario Lemieux's club records.

-Tampa Bay defeated New Jersey 3-1.

Matt Murray made 26 saves and collected his second shutout in the series. The Pittsburgh captain now has 173 points in Stanley Cup play, passing Hall of Famer Mario Lemieux for the most in club history. "The fact I can be close to him and around that one, I guess I've been fortunate to play in a number of playoff games helps a lot".

Crosby added a goal of his own in the second period, his fifth of the playoffs, to break Lemieux's record. Neuvirth was looking over his right shoulder for the Crosby shot that slipped in by his left skate.

The Flyers had consecutive dominating shifts later in the period, swarming the net, keeping the puck in the Pittsburgh end, and firing shots at Murray. The Penguins were composed.

For whatever reason, the Flyers never evolved into a dominant team on home ice this season.

Philadelphia coach Dave Hakstol dismissed it as nothing unusual, but it shows that the Penguins' dominance over the Flyers this season hasn't been limited to their stars. The Flyers are officially calling it a lower-body injury.

Giroux has just one assist in the four games. The two dropped the gloves and fought in Game 3. They finished in a split-screen duet. Cruising along and up 3-0, the Vezina Trophy finalist allowed Gabriel Landeskog's 5-on-3 power-play goal in the third and another on Alexander Kerfoot's tap-in off a rebound.

With the Wells Fargo Center half empty midway through the third period, the postseason frenzy felt more like a preseason yawner.

From behind the goal line, Crosby spun away from Shayne Gostisbehere (minus-7 in the series) and beat the slow-to-react Neuvirth to make it 4-0 with 9:04 remaining in the second.

Riley Sheahan scored late in the third just to rub the Flyers nose in the dirt, ensuring a 5-0 Pittsburgh victory. Miller also had two assists and Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 27 shots.

Murray was solid again, and stoned Travis Konency on a breakaway out of the penalty box in the second that had the second-year center slam his stick on the ice in anger.

"They came out hard", Andrew MacDonald said.

"We didn't do the job in the second". Crosby scored on all three goalies the Flyers have used in the series.

Throughout the series, the Flyers have been thoroughly outmatched, and outplayed.
