The report said that Allegiant experienced more than 100 serious mechanical incidents including aborted takeoffs, loss of cabin pressure, and emergency landings.

More than a year's worth of FAA reports for Allegiant and seven other airlines show that the carrier was on average almost three and a half times more likely to have a midair breakdown than Delta, United, American, Spirit, or JetBlue.

Allegiant Air, the subject of a critical report on CBS News' "60 Minutes" on Sunday, has expanded steadily in the five years since it started flights between Stewart International Airport and a single destination in Florida.

CBS show "60 Minutes" raised safety concerns regarding the Las Vegas-based company during a 26-minute segment.

Whitmer went on to say, OWB employees are constantly trained by the airline on safety measures and customer service.

For Travel Masters of Geneseo Inc. owner Diane Lowe, who has 25 years experience in the travel industry, the report does not change her mind about Allegiant.

A new report accuses Allegiant Air of being the "most dangerous" airline in the United States.

Apart from mechanical concerns, Riggs says Allegiant may have a larger safety problem that dates back several years. But as "60 Minutes" reported, when a near crash happened due to a missing component in 2015, the FAA investigator recommended strong enforcement and maximum fines.

Allegiant Air shares continue to fall in the aftermath of a news report that is raising serious safety questions about the low-priced carrier.




On Monday, Allegiant issued a statement by Eric Gust, vice president of operations, charging that the CBS story told a "false narrative" about Allegiant and the FAA. Allegiant said, by the end of 2018, it will be using newer Airbus models for the millions of passengers that fly ever year.

"I think they follow the rules", passenger Guy Boulais said.

In addition, Bahrami said the FAA ongoing evaluation of the airline's safety compliance has not discovered any significant or systemic issues with Allegiant's current operations during its 2016 audit of the airline. The audit, a Certificate Holder Evaluation Process (CHEP) done every five years on airlines and fix stations in addition to routine oversight, is a top-to-bottom review on an operator's system to ensure it is complying with regulations. CBS stands by its reporting and said the 2015 incident is "just one of the incidents detailed in the report".

US Representative Charlie Crist, a Florida Democrat, wrote separately to the Transportation Department, demanding the agency "take action to improve passenger safety", as well as to hold Allegiant accountable for past safety failures.

"They don't have the number of mechanics", Goglia told "60 Minutes" for its report.

"They have an excellent record with us", Hastert said.

Allegiant is known as a low-priced airline.

"Ogdensburg International Airport (OGS) is accomplishing great things for the local economy and safety in aviation is number one".
