Google's upcoming Gmail redesign could come with security features that ensure only the right person can view an e-mail-and only for a specific period of time.

According to a screenshot shared by TechCrunch, Google said "In the coming weeks, we'll be announcing an Early Adopter Program (EAP) for a new experience in Gmail".

The improved design includes features such as offline support, smart replies and a snooze option to deal with annoying messages.

Google is reportedly working on an overhaul of Gmail for web which will see a new design along with several new features, including a Confidential Mode. "Therefore we ask that Project Maven be cancelled, and that Google draft, publicize and enforce a clear policy stating that neither Google nor its contractors will ever build warfare technology", the letter, obtained by The New York Times, read. In addition to that, it will also let you secure emails by enabling password protection which will be automatically generated through SMS.

Taking up less than 5 MB‚ Google said the app is quick to download without using much data‚ and it takes up minimal space on your phone. "Complete", meaning that those sensitive emails will also be deleted immediately from Google servers.

- It uses the latest version of Google's advanced compression algorithm‚ using up to 40% less data to display search results. G Suite customers and the regular Gmail accounts may receive the updates and some of the compatibility aspects checked out and then the rollout may happen. "Unfortunately they can not always decide on the type of device they have, or the kind of connection they are on", said Charles Murito, Google country manager, Kenya. The "Compact" view will remain the closest to the current Gmail design, while displaying the most messages on screen.

There is still no word on quite when the update will roll out and make its way to the masses, but it seems likely that Google will showcase the changes at its Google I/O developer conference next month.

The design looked more like the mobile app meaning Gmail itself could be updated in a similar way.
