  • “IPL2018 matches in Chennai will be held as per the schedule. Adequate security measures have been taken. IPL should not be dragged into political controversies,” said IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla

The output from two of the thermal power stations in NLC are being shared by the southern states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala and Puducherry.

The SC also asked competent authorities in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka to maintain peace in their states till the court finalises the scheme for implementation of its judgment.

To a question on whether a board or an authority will be formed under the scheme to implement the court order, Singh said that the ministry has no problem with the nomenclature of the structure that takes shape.

The burgeoning political row over the Cauvery between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu appears to have spilled on to the game of cricket!

The apex court said it considered the CWDT (Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal) award and decided the water share for states, which has to be complied with.

The Centre had been repeatedly argued for more time to work on a strategy to decide water distribution in the states.

Chennai: Tamil superstar-turned-politician Rajinikanth today protested against the delay in setting up the Cauvery Management Board as directed by the Supreme Court. They are bound to frame a scheme. Also, the said that nothing is going to happen during the match and they are proving the high security. "But, if you organise an IPL match at a time when the youngsters are increasingly raising their voices for their social rights, especially after Jallikattu protests, it may divert their attention from the main issues".

"Now you must show your bonafide by framing a scheme... you should show respect to the principle of distribution of water..."

The bench directed the filing of the draft scheme pertaining to CMB before it.

"When the scheme comes into effect, it will become binding on the Centre and all states", the CJI said. "The statute says "scheme".

The actor, who has announced his intentions to launch his political party, said the entire Tamil Nadu was seeking the formation of Cauvery Management Board "in one voice". The CJI agreed to this. "We will submit it before the deadline", said top sources in the ministry.

Senior counsel Shyam Divan and Mohan Katarki for Karnataka denied that Karnataka had deliberately flouted the tribunal's award.

In its application, the Centre sought "clarification" from the Supreme Court on its direction, saying there were differences between some of the parties on the subject. The Centre had approached the court, seeking a three-month extension to implement the 16 February order.

Karnataka is keen on a dispute redressal body, and Kerala wants the board to have both administrators as well as technocrats.
