Arsenal put one foot in Europa League semis

  • Arsene Wenger reveals striker concern ahead of Europa League tie

Arsenal have one foot in the UEFA Europa League semi-finals after they thumped CSKA Moscow 4-1 in the first leg of their quarter-final on Thursday.

The Gunners are nearly condemned to miss out finishing in the top four of the Premier League and winning the Europa League seem their only passage to the Champions League.

The Gunners took the lead inside nine minutes through Aaron Ramsey, but were pegged back not long after by a superb free-kick from Aleksandr Golovin.

Luckily Arsenal have stepped up since conceding, with Alexandre Lacazette scoring a penalty and Ramsey netting a brilliant second to make it 3-1. Arsene Wenger has sprung up another surprise, starting both Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey.

But at the back the away side looked absolutely hapless and that allowed the Gunners to restore their lead in the 23rd minute - Georgy Schennikov clumsily tripping Ozil in the area and Lacazette confidently dispatched the resulting spot-kick.

At the end of the first 45 minutes it was Arsenal that walked into the tunnel with a commanding 4 - 1.

Nevertheless, 4-1 was how the encounter ended as the Gunners take a comfortable lead to Russian Federation next week.
