He has also been ordered to pay a $20,000 fine. Trump's former national security adviser Michael Flynn and former Trump campaign aide George Papadopoulos also have pleaded guilty.

Van der Zwaan received a 30-day prison sentence as well as a $20,000 fine and two months probation.

"There were not mistakes".

Mueller's prosecutors countered, asserting that van der Zwaan would be out of jail before his child's birth. "This was lying to a federal officer in the course of a criminal investigation".

Van der Zwaan's attorney, William Schwartz, sought to paint a sympathetic portrait of his client for the court, describing his time in the U.S.as "untethered", with no job, routine, or friends. So they retained a team from Skadden Arps, which included van der Zwaan, to put together a "report" that conveniently concluded that there was no political motive for putting her in jail.

The case has also revealed previously undisclosed connections between senior Trump campaign aides, including Rick Gates, and Russian Federation. Manafort and Gates continued their work for Yanukovych afterward, and van der Zwaan moved on to other things - most notably marrying Eva Khan, the daughter of Ukrainian-Russian billionaire German Khan, in the summer of 2017.

Andrew Weissmann, a prosecutor with Mueller's office, disputed the defence's characterization of van der Zwaan's cooperation, saying he returned to the United States after his first interview because he was compelled to do so by a grand jury subpoena.

ABC News reported that Ukraine-based Konstantin Kilimnik is the associate with whom van der Zwaan and Gates met, although he denies it. Kilimnik worked with Manafort past year to improve the latter's image in Ukraine, which violated a court-imposed gag order. I apologize to the court.

Both Gates and Manafort have been charged in Mueller's probe with lying to investigators and conspiracy, tied to Manafort's work as a lobbyist for pro-Russia politicians in Ukraine. Though prosecutors did not take a position on whether he should be locked up, they stressed that he had lied "repeatedly" to investigators.

Van der Zwaan attorney William Schwartz said that the defendant should not be punished because of who his family is, and deserved credit for the loss of his career, suffering of his wife, who is expecting the couple's first child in August in a hard pregnancy, and for turning over recorded conversations and other evidence of his guilt.

When asked about Zamel, Wikistrat said in a statement: "Joel is a bright young businessman and Wikistrat has been privileged to serve several USA government clients", according to the Journal. He did not suffer unavoidable circumstances of tragedy.

Berman Jackson concluded, however, that "the expressions of remorse here by the defendant. have been somewhat muted to say the least". Stolen DNC emails had been released by WikiLeaks the previous month, and the hack was widely suspected to be the work of Russian Federation. She allowed him to voluntarily surrender to prison authorities.

The term is the first sentence handed down in the special counsel's investigation.

Rosenstein's decision was disclosed in a memo attached to a court filing late Monday. Mueller indicted Gates in October, along with Manafort, on charges of money laundering and illegal lobbying.

A Dutch attorney was sentenced to 30 days in prison as part of special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Trump campaign ties to Russian Federation. But that defense crumbled on Tuesday, when it was revealed in a court filing that Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein had authorized Mueller to probe whether Manafort "committed a crime or crimes by colluding with Russian government officials", according to a previously undisclosed memo.

A Dutch lawyer has been sentenced to 30 days in jail and was ordered to pay a $20,000 fine in connection to the Russian Federation investigation.

But Monday's filing appears to undercut that argument.
