  • Bombs disguised as rocks in Yemen show Iranian aid

A former Israeli defence minister has said that US President Donald Trump's new national security adviser, John Bolton, once tried to convince him to attack Iran.

"(He) may leverage the recent Houthi missile attacks to strengthen his narrative that Iran's encroachment is undermining regional stability and that a more concerted worldwide effort is needed to contain Iran".

The Islamic Republic, he said, wants Saudi Arabia to immediately join a peace process in Yemen and stop actions that have failed to bring peace to Yemen, but rather helped develop al-Qaeda and Daesh terror groups there.

He expressed concerns at what he called the sale of USA weapons to Saudi Arabia.

A USA official said Washington would support Saudi Arabia's "right to defend its borders" following missile attacks on the kingdom from Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi militia. This is the only way to stop the Houthis and the Iranian Regime from taking hold of Yemen.

General Javani underlined that Saudi Arabia first though it was dealing with just a group of people; however, Riyadh is seeing that it is the "Yemeni nation" that is standing up to the Saudi Aggression.

Qassemi also rejected the claims on the provision of Yemenis with missiles and said, "By leveling baseless and imaginary accusations without evidence against others, the Saudis are trying to cover up their inability and consecutive defeats they have suffered ... in the war against Yemeni people despite possessing ... a collection of advanced weapons and multi-billion-dollar arms purchases".

He also expressed the UN's readiness to work to find a solution that will "end the suffering in Yemen".

Details of the Saudi lobbying campaign were revealed by Reuters and diplomats said the United Nations chief was subjected to "bullying, threats, and pressure" and "real blackmail".

Military escalation in response to the latest rocket salvo could mean more coalition air strikes - which have been widely criticised for killing civilians - or mobilising the Saudi National Guard from a mostly static position along the border to undertake a concerted ground assault inside northern Yemen.

Over 14,000 Yemenis, including thousands of women and children, have lost their lives in the deadly military campaign.

A Saudi-led military coalition intervened in Yemen on March 26, 2015 to try to restore the government of President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi after the Houthis and their allies took over large parts of the country, including the capital Sanaa.
