  • Saudi Arabia Military Intercepts 7 Missiles Fired From Yemen, Debris Lands In Suburbs And Kills Resident

Hours earlier, Saudi Arabia said its army intercepted a missile over Riyadh, but added that shrapnel from the destroyed projectile killed an Egyptian citizen and injured two people on the ground.

Yemeni forces on Sunday fired seven ballistic missiles, including the newly launched short-range ballistic missile "Badr", at the Saudi-led coalition, the Arabic-language al-Masirah television network reported. After the missile attacks that resulted in the first reported death in the Saudi capital, Sanaa's Sabaeen Square on Monday was a sea of Yemeni flags as rebel authorities ordered all schools and government offices shut for the anniversary.

Ibtisam al-Mutawakel, head of the Houthi's cultural committee, told AFP the missiles targeting Saudi Arabia were meant to be a message to the kingdom's leadership from the rebels.

"But it's not a good sign considering [Saudi Crown Prince] Mohammed bin Salman was in Washington, DC, meeting US President Donald Trump".

One video appears to show a Patriot missile launch on Sunday night go rapidly wrong, with the missile changing course midair, crashing into a neighborhood in Riyadh and exploding.

However, al-Sammad also said the rebels were "ready to reach an understanding".

"It is an attempt to terrorise civilians and destabilise the safety and security of the kingdom", he said in remarks carried by the UAE state news agency, Wam.

The intended target of the Burkan H2 missile was reportedly the King Khalid global airport in Riyadh.

Yemen has been embroiled in a devastating conflict between the Saudi-backed government and rebels over the past three years.

The Nov. 4 attack saw the Saudi-led coalition escalate its attacks.

The Houthis expelled pro-government forces from the capital in September 2014 and went on to seize swathes of the impoverished Arabian peninsula country.

The Saudi-led coalition, supported by the United States, is fighting the Houthi rebels.

On Monday, which marked three years of war, Houthi rebel supporters took to Sanaa's streets.

A message was broadcast at the parade by Hassan Nasrallah with the Lebanese militia leader praising the "steadfastness" of the "Yemeni people" against the Saudi intervention force. "We will activate military institutions in an unprecedented way and open up more opportunities to recruit the children and men of our people to fight".
