YouTube Announces Big Change for Gun Videos

  • Hosts of InRangeTV compare firearms. The show decided to put its videos on Pornhub after You Tube announced that it would ban certain instructional firearms videos

Banned accessories include, but are not limited to, bump stocks and high capacity magazines. No videos that provide instructions on making or installing a gun, ammunition, high-capacity magazine, homemade silencer or other certain accessories will be allowed. This also includes instructions on how to convert a firearm to automatic or simulated automatic firing capabilities.

It was never said that YouTube Red is going to make theatrical releases a major part of its strategy with a spokesperson for the company saying previous year that the distribution strategy will remain grounded on YouTube Red. Though the company does not aim to specifically "increase ad loads across YouTube", for the users who "use YouTube like a paid music service today - and would benefit most from additional features - we may show more ads or promotional prompts to upsell to our paid service", the spokesperson said.

The video-streaming service, which is owned by Google, said it would ban videos that promote either the construction or sale of firearms and their accessories.

But with native support in a half dozen different Android phone apps, the convenience might just encourage some people to switch to YouTube, at least for the short-form kind of content you'd usually stream from a mobile. If you watch a lot of music videos on YouTube you've probably also noticed the curated "My Mix" playlists that it creates.

Although YouTube doesn't directly attribute the changes towards the multiplicity of mass shootings across the United States, the video platform does have a history of changing its policies in the wake of tragedies.

YouTube, the video streaming and upload service owned by Google, is going after lawful gun owners and companies by taking down channels.

In a statement on its website, NSSF said that move is "especially worrisome", because it has the "potential for blocking educational content that serves an instructional and skill-building goal".

The announcement comes days before planned student-led protests against gun violence on Saturday. But some gun enthusiasts have already seen their pages become inoperative. "The exercise of what amounts to censorship, then, can legitimately be viewed as the stifling of commercial free speech", it added.

Spike's Tactical, a firearms company, and InRange TV, a channel devoted to firearms, both wrote on Facebook that they have been suspended from YouTube.

What do you think about this new update?

With the rising popularity of paid Spotify, Apple Music and Tidal subscriptions, streaming music to listen to passively for a long period of time is something that won't be free anywhere for very much longer.
