Former Borussia Dortmund coach Thomas Tuchel is in talks to succeed Arsene Wenger as Arsenal manager in the summer, according to reports.

German football legend Lothar Matthaus told Bild: "He's in contact with Arsenal". "I'm sure in the not too distant future he'll be managing a big club".

Wenger still has 18 months remaining on his contract at the Emirates Stadium, but reports this weekend claim that Tuchel has begun negotiations with the Gunners over taking on the reins when the long-serving Frenchman decides to step down.

Bundesliga giants, Bayern Munich were interested in bringing in the 44-year-old as Jupp Heynckes' successor.

Tuchel rejecting Bayern for Arsenal?

"I think that Thomas Tuchel has the quality to coach Bayern", he said.

Arsenal are now in sixth place in the Premier League table and look unlikely to be able to break back into the top four before the season is out. He has continued the progression from the youth teams at Mainz.

Earlier, Metro had reported that the chairman of Arsenal Football Club, Ivan Gazidiz was impressed buy Allegri's ability to turn around the game at the Wembley in the Champions League round of 16 tie against Tottenham and wants to see him take over from Wenger.

The Gunners face CSKA Moscow in the quarter-finals, their only chance for glory having been knocked out of the FA Cup in the third round by Nottingham Forest, and losing the Carabao Cup final to Manchester City.

The Sunday morning links to Tuchel have some Arsenal fans excited about what may be next season. In the Premier league Wenger has started Holding 6 times to Chambers 5, although Calum has also been played as a right back at times, so Wenger doesn't seem to have a preference on paper and seems to treat them equally.
