  • Rajya Sabha elections: Senior Congress leaders to camp in Lucknow to ensure all party MLAs vote for BSP candidate

She also suspended her party MLA Anil Singh, alleging he cross voted in favour of the BJP to serve his business interests.

She referred to the incidents of cross-voting against the BSP, and the fact that party MLA Mukhtar Ansari and SP MLA Hari Om Yadav were prevented from voting as they were in jail. "BSP candidate Bhimrao Ambedkar got all the votes as well as one vote extra", Misra said.

The remaining seat went to the Samajwadi Party in the polls marred by cross-voting from both the sides, which led to the defeat of the BSP candidate in the prestigious battle of ballots, touted as a test for the new-found bonhomie between the parties headed by Akhilesh Yadav and Mayawati.

Speaking about June 2, 1995 guest house case, Ms Mayawati said that SP president Akhilesh Yadav was very young that time and he has no relevance with that case.

Attacking on the BJP, she said "This immoral victory can not make up for their defeat in Gorakhpur and Phulpur". Taking a dig at Prime Minister Modi she said, "It is possible that Modi might be hovering over as our alliance has given him sleeplessness". She accused the BJP of creating terror and indulging in horse trading.

She said the BJP's "conspiracy" could have been defeated had Mr. Yadav not been trapped in a "web of falsehood" by Raja Bhaiya.

During her press conference, the BSP supremo reiterated several times that the alliance between SP and BSP will not be breached by yesterday's results and will rather strengthen.

Mayawati said that if the BJP is so assured of its victory, it needs to conduct the future elections through ballot papers instead of EVMs.

In the Rajya Sabha polls, the BJP bagged a total of nine out of 10 seats in Uttar Pradesh, while the BSP-backed SP won a solitary seat.

To show solidarity with the BSP, the Samajwadi Party said it had planned a function at the party headquarters here to celebrate the victory of its candidate Jaya Bachchan in Friday's election but cancelled it as the candidate of its ally BSP could not win his seat.

Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma termed the alliance of the SP and the BSP as "lathabandhan" (a tie-up to intimidate people).
