Some gun enthusiasts have already seen their pages suspended, although Youtube does not plan on fully enforcing the changes until April. A current search on the site for "how to build a gun" yields 25 million results, though that includes items such as toys. "This is really bad", wrote Full30, a gun video publisher.

"We routinely make updates and adjustments to our enforcement guidelines across all of our policies", a YouTube spokesperson said in a statement.

YouTube will also prohibit content that provides instructions on manufacturing a firearm, ammunition, high capacity magazines and homemade silencers.

In February, shortly after the Parkland, Florida, shooting that claimed 17 lives and reinvigorated the debate about gun control, YouTube attempted to clamp down on conspiracy videos. The platform is more widely known for its pre-recorded content, while its main competitor Twitch continues to be the platform of choice for most video game streamers.

The firearms decision comes days before Saturday's March For Our Lives, a rally organized by survivors of the February 14 school shooting in Parkland, Florida, that left 17 dead. That's evident in the video-sharing company's decision to enact a new policy putting restrictions on videos that promote the sale of firearms and firearm accessories.

YouTubers like asapSCIENCE, an award-winning science channel with more than 7 million subscribers, and Smarter Every Day, another science channel with more than 5.5 million subscribers, are a couple of creators whom YouTube is planning to work with, according to a company representative.

However, as of Tuesday afternoon, Spike's Tactical's YouTube account appeared to be back up and running.

Not quite getting enough of the lunacy that comes with the folks at Spike's Tactical, OW then included the company's marketing director, Kit Cope, and general manager, Cole Leleux, as sources in a March 7 cover story on how firearms, like any product, are sold using an emotional appeal to a company's customer-base.
