West Ham United are facing an investigation by the Football Association after their defeat by Burnley was marred by ugly scenes on and off the pitch as stewards at the London Stadium failed to stop supporters from mounting furious protests against the board.

Noble's ascent from boyhood West Ham fan to key player for the club had made him a favourite of the Hammers support. As he watched on as his beloved club (he made over 500 appearances for West Ham between 1966-94) got sucked into the toxicity of their dissatisfied fanbase, it was hard not to feel sorry for him. Another disgruntled supporter tried to plant the corner flag in the centre circle.

David Gold says that he will remain the West Ham United co-chairman despite mass protest.

'Obviously, a number of fans got on the pitch.

Former West Ham striker and manager Trevor Brooking cut a lonely figure as he sat in the directors' box alone for the final stages of the match that saw West Ham slip to 16th in the Premier League, just three points above the relegation zone.

"Fans said to me this is going to look really bad tomorrow, but all they want are answers".

West Ham owners David Gold and David Sullivan are understood to have left their seats for their own safety during the clashes.

The club later released a strongly-worded statement which read: "West Ham have launched a full and thorough investigation into the crowd trouble at today's game with Burnley and an emergency meeting of London Stadium stakeholders has been called".

West Ham boss David Moyes plans to take his squad to Florida over their extended break. He said: "As a supporter you can't cross the line".

"There are a lot of them out there who are not happy and it's a tough atmopshere".

"The players know we did well today for long periods". They've conceded more goals (57) than any other Premier League team this term and the sixth most of all teams in the four tiers of English football, despite playing up to seven fewer games.

Lampard had some sympathy for the fans, but did not condone their actions. Moyes isn't the man to guide the team out of this current rut and despite being promised ample funds to strengthen the squad if - and I stress IF - they stay up, it's feasibly possible West Ham will need to prepare for the Championship. They just want answers.

Gold, accosted by angry fans in the vehicle park as he made his getaway from last week's abject defeat at Swansea, had admitted in the matchday programme: "There is no denying it, we are in a battle for our Premier League survival".
