Luke Bryan defends Katy Perry over 'American Idol' kiss controversy

To their credit, the judges made a decision to give her another chance, but this time she didn't even have a chance to start singing before the dog proceeded to pee all over the place, to Lionel Richie's palatable disgust.

She's been hitting headlines with her appearances on the programme so far, such as when she kissed an auditionee who stated that he'd never kissed a girl on the lips - with some media even asking if she's even making Idol ratings worse. "I watched an actual interview where Ben, the kid that was involved, he said he was cool with everything".

The drama blew up when the audition aired on TV earlier this month and the aspiring singer told The New York Times his kiss with Katy was "a tad bit uncomfortable", adding, "I wanted to save it for my first relationship".

"I've got to back Katy on that", Luke told The Morning Show. After two years, one of her Twitter followers questioned Perry if she would ever work in collaboration with Taylor Swift.

"We are going to get it right sometimes and get it wrong sometimes", said Bryan.

"We're in there critiquing people. That's just what you signed up for", he shared.

But, Luke points out, "At the end of the day, me and Lionel [Richie] and Katy and Ryan [Seacrest]...our hearts are in the right place".

In Glaze's interview with ET, he said he didn't think Perry "had any malicious intent" by kissing him before his audition. "Obviously it's gotten a huge amount of publicity, and I am more thankful for that than not".

"I am not complaining about the kiss from Katy Perry at all".

It seemed a particularly meaningful choice since, as previously reported, Underwood invited Rittenhouse to sing with her on stage during a 2009 return visit to Checotah Schools.
