India's bid to host the next U-20 FIFA World Cup ended in disappointment as world football governing body FIFA accorded the status to Poland.

VAR will be used in the most important football competition in the world for the first time in the 2018 World Cup, held in Russian Federation from June 14 to July 15.

The World Cup, which takes place from June 14-July 15, will see VAR used to judge whether or not a goal has been scored, analyse whether a penalty should be awarded, decide on red cards and rectify if a player has been mistakenly sanctioned.

"The World Cup is a national priority for our government and that is why it has guaranteed the required investment in our exciting and innovative stadium plans", added Elalamy.

According to IFAB, this move 'represents a new era for football with video assistance for referees helping to increase integrity and fairness in the game'.

He added: "It's not possible that in 2018 everyone in their living room knows a few seconds after the play whether a referee has made a mistake and the referee doesn't".

VAR has been trialled in some domestic English cup games and in Germany and Italian football this season.

Kigali was confirmed on Friday during FIFA's sixth meeting at the Agora Convention Centre in Bogotá, Colombia, where it also discussed a number of initiatives related to the future of worldwide football competitions. Some officials have said Britain may reconsider the attendance of official representatives at the World Cup, with England having qualified for the tournament.

African nation Morocco unveiled their proposed cities and stadia today after the North American bid - comprised of United States, Canada and Mexico - did the same earlier this week.

Morocco says it will need to spend nearly $16 billion to prepare to host the 2026 World Cup, with every proposed stadium and training ground built from scratch or renovated. Until now the World Cup hosts were selected exclusively by the football's body Executive Committee.
