Sex and the City star Cynthia Nixon has announced she is launching a bid for NY governor in the upcoming Democratic primary.

Cynthia Nixon is a woman of the people, according to the video she released on her Twitter account Monday afternoon.

"We are sick of politicians who care more about headlines and power than they do about us", Nixon said in the video.

During that interview she identified education as an issue she's passionate about addressing and said that parents all across NY state had spoken to her about the quality of education, or lack thereof, throughout the state.

At least there's one thing some of the "Sex and the City" cast can agree on: Cynthia Nixon is ready to run for office. Nixon's wife, Christine Marinoni, works in de Blasio's administration as a special adviser for community partnerships in the Department of Education.

If Nixon wins she'll be the first openly-gay person *and* woman to hold the NY position. Forty-eight percent said Cuomo should be re-elected and 46 percent said "someone else".

Her campaign received early backing from Fordham Law School professor Zephyr Teachout, who challenged Cuomo in a Democratic primary in 2014, receiving about a third of the vote. Nixon, whose character, Miranda, was an attorney, also appeared in the two SATC movies, of which there will be no more (and not just because she'll be busy running for office). Qualifying for the governor's race doesn't even begin until June, and the primary's on September 13. "That's called elections and that's fine".

Three-quarters of those polled said they have no opinion or don't know enough about Nixon or Sen.

Additionally, Nixon says that she would pass the DREAM act, "which has been blocked by Cuomo's IDC", a move she says would make NY a "true sanctuary state".

Willie Garson, who played the character Stanford Blatch in the HBO series, as well as in the two feature films, also backed Nixon in her jump from acting to politics.

According to The New York Times, Cuomo's name was mentioned 163 times during Joseph Percoco's eight-week federal trial. Meanwhile, Kristin Davis (aka SATC's Charlotte York Goldenblatt) already tweeted her support of Nixon.
